Cuarenta años de After virtue de Alasdair Macintyre relecturas iberoamericanas

Abstract

Estamos ante un libro que hace un homenaje a un gran libro, un libro que ya podemos decir que está en el panteón de los libros clásicos. Pocos libros han tenido un impacto tan hondo en el pensamiento moral como After virtue en 1981. Su autor, Alasdair MacIntyre, ha introducido un profundo cambio en muchos campos desde sus páginas. Nadie en los últimos cuarenta años en la ética puede esquivar su desafío. Por ello, un grupo internacional de especialistas en MacIntyre hemos querido recoger lo que ha significado el impacto mundial de este libro en estas cuatro décadas y dar a conocer lo que ha supuesto al menos en el mundo iberoamericano. Este libro consta de tres partes fundamentales. La primera parte analiza los conceptos y perspectivas fundamentales de la obra de MacIntyre (aristotelismo, cristianismo, narratividad, tradición, bien común, dependencia, deseo). La segunda parte, siguiendo el propio espíritu de MacIntyre, confronta y compara la aportación de MacIntyre con autores relevantes como Charles Taylor y Michael Sandel, E. Anscombe, B. Williams, J. Pieper y M. Weber. La tercera parte quiere recoger algunos ámbitos de la ética donde el pensamiento de MacIntyre está siendo fecundo, inspirador, sugerente como son el de la enfermería y la medicina, el derecho y la justicia, la reflexión sobre el estado, la ecología, las nuevas tecnologías, la teología, la psicología, la Universidad, la educación y finalmente la vida de las personas corrientes. La obra que presentamos es la segunda reflexión de un conjunto de autores, de una comunidad de investigación, la mayoría iberoamericanos, que hace dos años de modo conjunto publicamos Alasdair MacIntyre: relecturas iberoamercianas (Dykinson, 2020). MacIntyre ha creado una red de trabajo e investigación muy sugerente y fructífera en español y portugués que ya tiene un recorrido. Con este nuevo libro, homenaje a After virtue, reconocemos que sólo una profunda vuelta a las virtudes y lo que suponen en el fondo, se puede coser este mundo roto, curar este mundo herido y vulnerado

This is a book that pays homage to a great book, a book that we can already say is in the pantheon of classic books. Few books have had such a profound impact on moral thought as After Virtue in 1981. Its author, Alasdair MacIntyre, has introduced a profound change in many fields from its pages. No one in the last forty years in ethics can dodge his challenge. For this reason, an international group of specialists in MacIntyre have wanted to collect what the global impact of this book has meant in these four decades and make known what it has meant, at least in the Ibero-American world. This book consists of three main parts. The first part analyzes the fundamental concepts and perspectives of MacIntyre's work (Aristotelianism, Christianity, narrativity, tradition, common good, dependence, desire). The second part, following MacIntyre's own spirit, confronts and compares MacIntyre's contribution with relevant authors such as Charles Taylor and Michael Sandel, E. Anscombe, B. Williams, J. Pieper and M. Weber. The third part wants to collect some areas of ethics where MacIntyre's thought is being fruitful, inspiring, suggestive such as nursing and medicine, law and justice, reflection on the state, ecology, new technologies , theology, psychology, the University, education and finally the life of ordinary people. The work that we present is the second reflection of a group of authors, of a research community, most of them Ibero-Americans, who jointly published Alasdair MacIntyre: Ibero-American rereadings two years ago (Dykinson, 2020). MacIntyre has created a highly suggestive and fruitful network of work and research in Spanish and Portuguese that already has a long history. With this new book, a tribute to After virtue, we recognize that only a deep return to the virtues and what they mean deep down can sew up this broken world, heal this wounded and violated world.
