Abstract

Viviendo en el burdel es un libro atrevido, basado en los diarios etnográficos de la autora realizados tras estar viviendo en cinco prostíbulos españoles, mostrando en este libro el transcurrir de la vida cotidiana en tres de ellos, sin tapujos ni maquillajes. Es un libro para adultos, en el que mediante un formato de diario nos va exponiendo de manera sencilla y en un lenguaje muy accesible la metodología utilizada y los aspectos ocultos del sexo de pago. La autora nos hace partícipe de sus reflexiones iniciales, antes de entrar en los burdeles, para posteriormente narrarnos lo que se iba encontrando en el día a día: prácticas sexuales, las relaciones con las mujeres, con los dueños y dueñas de los prostíbulos y sus empleados, y con los hombres que pagaban por sexo. A partir de las entrevistas e interacciones con las personas de estos locales, da voz principalmente a las mujeres, de las que aprendió mucho sobre sexo y feminismo. Tuvo que enfrentarse al estigma de puta en su propia persona, así como a las insinuaciones de algunos clientes. Además, como trabajo de investigación se plantea, inicialmente, una serie de preguntas que quería responderse y que se muestra en este libro: ¿La trata sexual y la prostitución son sinónimos? ¿Qué motiva a las mujeres a entrar en el sexo comercial? ¿Toman las mujeres sus propias decisiones o son presionadas dentro del sexo de pago? ¿Cómo influyen los proxenetas? Estas y otras preguntas se desarrollan en este libro y las respuestas no dejarán indiferente al lector o lectora.

Living in the brothel is a daring book based on the author's ethnographic diaries, which she wrote after living in five Spanish brothels. In this book, she candidly portrays the daily life in three of them, without any taboos or disguises. It is an adult book in which, through a diary format, she straightforwardly and in a very accessible language presents the methodology used and the hidden aspects of the sex industry.

The author shares her initial reflections before entering the brothels, and then proceeds to narrate what she encountered day by day: sexual practices, relationships with the women, the owners and operators of the brothels and their employees, and the men who paid for sex. Through interviews and interactions with the people in these establishments, she gives voice primarily to the women, from whom she learned a great deal about sex and feminism.

She had to confront the stigma of being a sex worker herself, as well as the insinuations of some clients. Additionally, as part of her research work, she initially posed a series of questions that she wanted to answer, and these questions are addressed in this book: Are sex trafficking and prostitution synonymous? What motivates women to enter the commercial sex industry? Do women make their own choices, or are they pressured within the realm of paid sex? How do pimps influence the situation? These questions, among others, are explored in this book, and the answers will not leave the reader indifferent.
