Abstract
This Final Degree Thesis analyses the mechanism known as “Iberian exception”, which regulated electricity prices in Spain after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. The energy situation in Spain is presented, considering the existing particularities and the challenge that the energy transition represents for this country. It also examines the most influential political, economic and social factors in the European Union’s decision-making process, given that energy policy is one of the most controversial issues when it comes to reaching agreements within the EU framework. This work identifies the causes that led to the adoption of the “Iberian exception”, and the results obtained in Spain and Portugal are evaluated.
