IMPLICACIONES DE LAS MONEDAS DIGITALES EMITIDAS POR LOS BANCOS CENTRALES EN EL COMERCIO INTERNACIONAL
Resumen
Este trabajo se centra en el estudio de la emisión de monedas digitales por parte de los bancos centrales (MDBC) y su potencial impacto sobre el comercio internacional y la economía global. Para ello, se emplea una metodología mixta. En primer lugar, un análisis cualitativo a través de una búsqueda extensa de artículos académicos, informes y documentos relacionados. De esta manera, se revisará el conocimiento sobre el tema y la situación actual en la economía y en el comercio. Por otra parte, se recopilan datos estadísticos y gráficos que sirven de suplemento y apoyo a la investigación. El trabajo se estructura en distintos capítulos. Una primera introducción sobre el concepto de dinero fiduciario y sus funciones. Asimismo, se incluye un preámbulo de la tecnología blockchain y el mundo de las criptomonedas para entender el funcionamiento de las MDBC. Más tarde, se estudian las oportunidades, los impactos y las ventajas y los riesgos de la emisión de estos activos digitales en el comercio internacional. Para un mayor entendimiento de los efectos de la emisión de las MDBC, en el capítulo V se estudia el caso de la moneda digital emitida por el banco central de las Bahamas, como ejemplo que ya ha incorporado este nuevo instrumento en su sistema financiero. Finalmente, se exponen las conclusiones obtenidas de la investigación y recomendaciones que se podrían realizar para evitar riesgos y obstáculos. This paper focuses on the study of the issuance of digital currencies by central banks (CBDCs) and their potential impact on international trade and the global economy. For this purpose, a mixed methodology is employed. On the one hand, a qualitative methodology is employed through an exhaustive search of academic articles, reports and documents related to the research. In this way, knowledge on the subject and the current situation of the economy and trade will be reviewed. On the other hand, statistical data and graphs are compiled to supplement and support the research. The work is structured in different chapters. A first introduction on the concept and functions of fiat money. In addition, a preamble of blockchain technology and the world of cryptocurrencies is included to understand how CBDCs work. Later, the opportunities, impacts, advantages and risks of issuing these digital assets in international trade are studied. For a better understanding of the effects of the issuance of CBDCs, Chapter V studies the case of the digital currency issued by the central bank of the Bahamas, as an example that has already incorporated this new instrument in its financial system. Finally, the conclusions obtained from the research and recommendations that could be made to avoid risks and obstacles are presented.
