Abstract

En las últimas décadas, hemos asistido a un cambio en el equilibrio de poder en el mundo, con la Unión Europea y Estados Unidos dejando de lado de forma progresiva a la región de América Latina y el Caribe. De esta forma, con su iniciativa de la Franja y la Ruta (BRI), China ha procurado expandir su influencia en aquellos lugares olvidados por la potencia norteamericana, desplazando, a su vez, a la Unión Europea como uno de los principales actores en América Latina y el Caribe. Esta situación, junto con otros factores relevantes, ha llevado a la Unión Europea a diseñar y desarrollar la iniciativa conocida como Global Gateaway, mediante la cual pretende impulsar la conectividad global a través de los principios y valores de la Unión, de forma que se reestablezcan las relaciones con América Latina y el Caribe y lograr un peso relevante en la región.

In recent decades, we have witnessed a shift in the balance of power in the world, with the European Union and the United States progressively shifted its focus away from the Latin America and the Caribbean region. Consequently, through its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China has sought to expand its influence in those regions overlooked by the United States, and with it, displacing the European Union as one of the main actors in Latin America and the Caribbean. This situation, together with other relevant factors, has led the European Union to design and develop an initiative known as Global Gateway. Through this initiative, the EU aims to promote global connectivity based on its principles and values, in order to re-establish relations with Latin America and the Caribbean, and to reach a relevant weight in the region.
