Chronic Kidney Disease is a disease that causes a slow, progressive and irreversible loss of
kidney function.
It is rare that there is an early diagnosis of this disease because the symptoms at the beginning
are very mild and may not be noticeable for a long time.
The only existing treatment capable of alleviating the effects of this pathology is the Renal
Replacement Therapy, which consist mainly of hemodialysis and, in the most advanced cases
of renal destruction, kidney transplantation.
Currently, about 1360 patients per million habitants need renal replacement therapy as they
have Chronic Kidney Disease.
It is important to highlight that the majority of patients diagnoses with Chronic Kidney Disease
have some cardiovascular or pulmonary pathology as a complementary disease, which further
increase the risk of mortality in these patients.
Currently there are interventions by physical therapist that could improve the current situation
of patients with Chronic Kidney Disease and, thereby, reduce the risk of mortality.
• Objective: To compare the efficacy of including intradialytic exercise in hemodialysis
treatment in patients with Chronic Kidney Disease.
• Methodology: This study will have an experimental, longitudinal, analytical and prospective
design, developed in three of the most important hospital in the Community of Madrid, in
individuals with Chronic Kidney Disease who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
The patients will be divided in two groups, where one of them will be the control group and
the will receive the traditional hemodialysis treatment, and the other group will be the
experimental group which in addition to hemodialysis, will receive intradialytic exercise.
Measurements of the variables to be studied will be made both prior to the start of the
intervention an at the end and, late, an analysis of the results will be carried out to show
the conclusions of the study.
