La protección de las mujeres ante el riesgo de mutilación genital : el reconocimiento del estatuto de refugiada

Abstract

Más de 130 millones de mujeres en el mundo han sufrido actos de mutilación genital femenina, y cada año más de 2 millones de niñas se encuentran en peligro de que se les practique la ablación. En los últimos años, se ha ido concedido la protección internacional de asilo a ciertas mujeres en riesgo de sufrir las consecuencias de esta práctica. El objetivo de este trabajo es el analizar qué requisitos son necesarios para que se reconozca la condición de refugiada por mutilación genital femenina, en aras de difundir su conocimiento y garantizar una efectiva protección de las víctimas.

More than 130 million women around the world have suffered from female genital mutilation, and every year more than 2 million girls are in danger of enduring the referred circumcision. In the last years, women facing the risk of suffering the consequences of these acts have been given international protection in the form of asylum. The objective of this investigation is to analyze what prerequisites are necessary so as to obtain the refugee condition due to female genital mutilation, with the aim of spreading the knowledge and guaranteeing an effective protection of the victims.
