Nihil sit alius amare quam esse : aproximación a la filosofía del amar en el pensamiento de Guillermo de Saint-Thierry

Abstract

El presente estudio pretende articular la reflexión de Guillermo de Saint-Thierry, monje y abad del siglo XII, sobre el fenómeno amoroso, como una relectura de la tradición agustiniana que supera los límites del pensamiento de san Agustín y de las figuras griega y hebrea del amor para poner el énfasis en la noción de relación. La tesis se divide en dos grandes partes. En la primera parte se sentarán las bases de lo que se llamará "el problema filosófico del amor", investigando las figuras griega y bíblica del amor y el papel que juega san Agustín en la síntesis de ambas (que heredará al Edad Media) y en su profundización filosófica. De esta forma, podremos determinar la herencia que recibe Guillermo de Saint-Thierry sobre la cuestión del amor y cómo al transforma y enriquece, poniendo el acento en su dimensión relacional frente a una visión más estática del amor. A partir de esta noción y del dinamismo del amar se plantean en la segunda parte los tres términos clave de la relación amorosa: el hombre en cuanto amado (y la antropología de Guillermo de Saint-Thierry), Dios como amante primordial (suscitando cuestiones clave sobre el replanteamiento de la ontología en clave trinitaria) y, sobre todo, el amor como dinamismo relacional que transforma y posibilita penetrar en la entraña de la realidad, lo que permitirá́ hablar del amar como el logos de dicha realidad. Esta conclusión se alcanza en diálogo con autores contemporáneos como Jean-Luc Marion y Jean-Louis Chrétien cuya reflexión se acerca e ilumina la de Guillermo de Saint-Thierry, mostrando su vigencia y actualidad.

This study aims to articulate the reflection of Guillermo de Saint-Thierry, a monk and abbot of the 12th century, on the phenomenon of love, as a reinterpretation of the Augustinian tradition that surpasses the limits of the thought of Saint Augustine and the Greek and Hebrew figures of love to emphasize the notion of relationship.

The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part will establish the foundations of what will be called "the philosophical problem of love", investigating the Greek and biblical figures of love and the role played by Saint Augustine in the synthesis of both (which he will pass on to the Middle Ages) and in its philosophical deepening. In this way, we can determine the inheritance that Guillermo de Saint-Thierry receives regarding the question of love and how he transforms and enriches it, emphasizing its relational dimension over a more static view of love.

Based on this notion and the dynamism of loving, the second part raises the three key terms of the loving relationship: man as the beloved (and the anthropology of Guillermo de Saint-Thierry), God as the primordial lover (raising key questions about the rethinking of ontology in a trinitarian key), and, above all, love as a relational dynamism that transforms and enables penetration into the heart of reality, which will allow us to speak of loving as the logos of said reality.

This conclusion is reached in dialogue with contemporary authors such as Jean-Luc Marion and Jean-Louis Chrétien, whose reflection approaches and illuminates that of Guillermo de Saint-Thierry, showing its relevance and timeliness.
