Iluminando el camino: Aprendizajes y pistas en la prevención del abuso eclesial

Abstract

Es tiempo para la mirada clara, de frente y limpia en la Iglesia. Es tiempo para no desviar las intenciones, sino para ofrecer un mensaje clarísimo sobre la seriedad y gravedad del abuso, sobre todo del perpetrado por personas de confianza, como ocurre en la Iglesia. Sabemos de la gran huella de daño que el abuso deja en las personas, y si el Evangelio supone mirar al necesitado, lavar y sanar las heridas del alma, es ineludible el compromiso para colocarse para siempre del lado de las víctimas, a la vez que, en clave de sanación interior, ofrecer a quienes causaron el daño y fueron agresores la oportunidad para reconducir su propia vida reparando el dolor causado. Es compromiso de toda la Iglesia, en la confianza de que, si le invocamos y le dejamos hacer, el Espíritu Santo vendará las heridas y nos guiará por un camino mucho más pleno.

It is time for a clear, direct, and honest perspective in the Church. It is time not to divert intentions but to deliver a very clear message about the seriousness and gravity of abuse, especially when committed by trusted individuals, as happens in the Church. We know the profound mark of harm that abuse leaves on people, and if the Gospel calls for attending to those in need, washing and healing the wounds of the soul, the commitment to stand forever on the side of the victims is unavoidable. At the same time, in a spirit of inner healing, we must offer those who caused harm and were aggressors the opportunity to redirect their lives by repairing the damage they caused. It is a commitment for the entire Church, trusting that, if we invoke Him and allow Him to act, the Holy Spirit will bind the wounds and guide us on a much fuller path.
