La mística de Bill Viola

Abstract

Recientemente, el Museu Episcopal de Vic ha expuesto la obra Visitation de Bill Viola, ofreciendo la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre el papel que desempeña el arte al hacer presente la dimensión de la transcendencia en nuestra sociedad. Re­ saltamos aquí diez características de su "mística", que Viola encuentra en los límites de la existencia, como cuando tiene que enfrentarse a la muerte de sus padres. Sin responder directamente, agudiza la pregunta por la vida más allá, intensificando la idea del umbral. Toda obra de arte debería ser en este sentido una "anunciación" del trasfondo espiritual de la vida que no aleja de lo ordinario, sino que permite celebrarlo más intensamente.

.Recently, the Episcopal Museum of Vic exhibited the artwork Visitation, by Bill Viola, offering the opportunity to reflect on the role that art plays in making present the dimension of transcendence in our society. Here we highlight ten charac­ teristics of his "mysticism", which Viola finds at the limits of existence, as when he has to face the death of his parents. Without answering directly, he sharpens the question of life beyond, intensifying the idea of the threshold. In this sense, every work of art should be an "annunciation" of the spiritual background of life, which does not re­ move it from the ordinary, but allows it to be celebrated more intensely
