India y su apuesta por el Sureste Asiático. Luces y sombras de un proceso inacabado

Abstract

El presente artículo analiza la interacción de India con el Sureste Asiático y su relación con ASEAN desde el fin de la Guerra Fría hasta el presente. A nivel político, se examinan, las bases y los objetivos indios en su acercamiento a ASEAN. En segundo lugar, se procede a analizar las relaciones comerciales entre la India y ASEAN, prestando especial atención a la firma del ASEAN–India Free Trade Area (AIFTA) firmado en 2009 y que entró en vigor en 2010. En tercer lugar, se procede a estudiar la creciente interacción en materia de seguridad y defensa no solo con ASEAN, sino también con países claves en la arquitectura de seguridad de la región como Indonesia, Singapur, Filipinas o Vietnam y las derivadas de esta cooperación en su competición estratégica con China

This article analyzes India's interaction with Southeast Asia and its relationship with ASEAN from the end of the Cold War to the present. At the political level, it examines the foundations and objectives of India in its approach to ASEAN. Second, it proceeds to analyze the trade relations between India and ASEAN, paying particular attention to the signing of the ASEAN–India Free Trade Area (AIFTA) signed in 2009, which entered into force in 2010. Thirdly it proceeds to study the growing interaction in security and defense not only with ASEAN but also with key countries in the region's security architecture such as Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines or Vietnam and the consequences derived from this cooperation in their strategic competition with China
