. This paper provides an extensive analysis using the primary identification strategy in
Ciacci (2024) to understand the robustness of the central result that banning the purchase
of sex in Sweden increases cases of rape. This analysis was prompted by criticism of Ciacci
(2024) received by the editorial office of the Journal. The Journal recruited a committee of
experts in the substantive field and empirical methods of Ciacci (2024), who concluded
that there was a coding mistake in that paper and recommended additional analyses to
understand better what can be learned with the data and primary identification strategy
in this context. This Editor, along with an Associate Editor and a Referee, oversaw the
standard process of this manuscript.
