Notas para una definición de las migraciones climáticas

Abstract

Este capítulo propone una aproximación crítica y sistemática al concepto de migraciones climáticas, cuestionando las explicaciones lineales que vinculan directamente el cambio climático con la movilidad humana. A través de un análisis discursivo y de contenido, se identifican cuatro rasgos fundamentales: la complejidad de la relación clima-movilidad; la ambigüedad terminológica que fragmenta la investigación; la asociación estructural con la vulnerabilidad socioeconómica, especialmente en el Sur Global; y las dificultades inherentes a su cuantificación. Lejos de ofrecer una definición cerrada, el texto aboga por una caracterización flexible que permita comprender la pluralidad de factores implicados y superar los enfoques deterministas, contribuyendo así a un marco teórico más sólido para afrontar los retos de la movilidad en el contexto de la crisis climática.

This chapter proposes a critical and systematic approach to the concept of climate migrations, questioning linear explanations that directly link climate change with human mobility. Through a discursive and content analysis, identifies four key features: the complexity of the climate-mobility relationship; the terminological ambiguity that fragments research; the structural association with socio-economic vulnerability, especially in the Global South; and the difficulties inherent in its quantification. Far from offering a closed definition, the text argues for a flexible characterisation that allows us to understand the plurality of factors involved and overcome deterministic approaches, thus contributing to a more solid theoretical framework for addressing the challenges of mobility in the context of the climate crisis.
