The Capitalocene as a Kinocene: Unveiling Environmental and Political Dualisms Subjecting Migrations in the World-ecology

Abstract

Este capítulo examina la figura del migrante climático como un artefacto cognitivo propio de la ecología-mundo capitalista, en la que confluyen poder, producción y percepción para legitimar un régimen de movilidad orientado a la acumulación de capital. A través de un análisis crítico de los marcos teóricos contemporáneos sobre movilidad, se identifican las estructuras materiales y simbólicas que sustentan esta categoría, particularmente los dualismos naturaleza-sociedad y movilidad legítima-ilegítima. Asimismo, se discute la proliferación de nuevas narrativas sobre el Antropoceno, destacando el Capitaloceno como el enfoque más sólido para comprender las dinámicas estructurales del sistema capitalista frente al cambio climático. Se revisa críticamente la noción del "Kinoceno" propuesta por Tomas Nail, rescatando su visión dinámica del mundo, pero señalando sus limitaciones explicativas. En definitiva, se argumenta que la categoría de migrante climático reproduce y refuerza estructuras simbólicas que perpetúan desigualdades globales y encubren las raíces políticas y económicas del fenómeno.

.This chapter examines the figure of the climate migrant as a cognitive artifact of the capitalist world-ecology, where power, production, and perception converge to legitimize a mobility regime oriented toward capital accumulation. Through a critical analysis of contemporary theoretical frameworks on mobility, the chapter identifies the material and symbolic structures that underpin this category, particularly the nature-society and legitimate-illegitimate mobility dualisms. It also discusses the proliferation of new narratives about the Anthropocene, highlighting the Capitalocene as the most robust approach for understanding the structural dynamics of the capitalist system in the face of climate change. The notion of the "Kinocene" proposed by Tomas Nail is critically reviewed, acknowledging its dynamic vision of the world while pointing out its explanatory limitations. Ultimately, the chapter argues that the category of climate migrant reproduces and reinforces symbolic structures that perpetuate global inequalities and obscure the political and economic roots of the phenomenon.
