This editorial explores the role of nutrition in applied physiology, emphasizing the impact of diet and supplements on performance, health, and recovery. It introduces a Special Issue containing seven research articles and a review, addressing topics such as the effects of creatine and caffeine on performance, the limited impact of D-aspartic acid in hypoxic training, and supplement use among elite football referees. Studies also examined the relationship between diet quality, neurotrophic factors, and fatty acid profiles, finding a link between body composition and BDNF levels. Research on older adults highlighted how poor diet and low physical activity correlate with hepatic steatosis and sarcopenia. Vitamin D deficiency and malnutrition were strongly associated with increased mortality in hip fracture patients. The editorial calls for more inclusive research, especially regarding women and alternative diets, and underlines nutrition’s pivotal role in enhancing physical function, preventing disease, and improving life quality in both athletic and aging populations.en-GB
