Internet : su uso abusivo y la relación con la autoestima y la generación
Resumen
En los últimos años el uso de Internet se ha generalizado, resultando que la mayoría de habitantes usan esta herramienta. Su implementación ha sido repentina y explosiva, consiguiendo en pocas décadas un uso masivo. Lo que da lugar a nuevas problemáticas relacionadas con el mal uso o el uso abusivo de Internet. En este estudio se pretende estudiar este uso adictivo relacionándolo con una baja autoestima y la pertenencia a una determinada generación. Se contemplará también la posibilidad de que el género influya en estas variables. Para ello, se contó con una muestra de 139 sujetos (N=139) que comprendían 3 generaciones distintas, X, Y y Z. Estos individuos fueron analizados gracias a dos test: la escala de autoestima de Rosenberg (Vázquez, Jimenez, y Vázquez- Morejón, 2004) y la escala de adicción a Internet o IAT (Widyanto, y McMurran, 2004). Los resultados de este estudio pueden resumirse en los siguientes apartados: existen diferencias significativas en el uso abusivo de internet entre la generación X y Z habiendo controlado el nivel de autoestima de los sujetos y su sexo; la autoestima del sujeto y el nivel de adicción a Internet correlacionan negativamente, pudiendo suponer la autoestima un factor de protección; y por último, la autoestima y el sexo del individuo influyen en la presencia de adicción a internet sugiriéndose en este estudio que en un futuro se investigue más la naturaleza de esta relación. In the last years, Internet use is widespread, resulting in that most people use this tool. This implementation has been sudden and explosive, getting in a few decades a generalized use. Those facts give rise to new diseases related to the misuse or abuse of Internet. This article aims to study this addictive consumption relating with low self-esteem and belonging to a particular generation. The possibility that sex influence these variables are also contemplated. The sample was composed of 139 subjects (N = 139) including 3 different generations X, Y and Z. These individuals were analyzed by two tests: the self-esteem scale Rosenberg (Vázquez, Jimenez y Vazquez - Morejon, 2004) and the scale of Internet addiction or IAT (Widyanto, and McMurran, 2004). The results of this study can be summarized in the following sections: there are significant differences in the misuse of internet between generation X and Z, having controlled the self-esteem of individuals and their sex; the self-esteem of the subject and the level of Internet addiction correlate negatively, may assume self-esteem a protection factor; and finally, self-esteem and sex of the individual influence the presence of Internet addiction suggesting in this study than in future articles investigate the nature of this relationship.
