Fragmentation, Offshoring and Structure of the Spanish Economy

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza si los procesos de deslocalización generan una destrucción significativa de tejido productivo de la economía española entre 2000 y 2005. Para ello, se aplica, sobre el marco input-output, la técnica de coeficientes importantes. Los resultados indican que en parte de la industria se percibe una creciente desvertebración de la producción, al reducirse los coeficientes importantes domésticos y crecer el offshoring. En los servicios se muestra una estructura productiva más compleja, sus empresas se especializan en la realización de tareas principales y aprovechan las ventajas que supone el mercado para comprar, dentro y fuera del país, las actividades secundarias de la producción.

This paper analyzes whether offshoring leads to significant destruction of productive Spanish economy between 2000 and 2005. We are based on the input-output and important coefficients methodologies. The results indicate a growing dislocation of industrial production because of the offshoring growth and lower important coefficients. Services show a more complex production structure, their companies specialize in the most important tasks and take advantage of the domestic and global markets to outsource their secondary production activities.
