The technological revolution together with the need to find more economical alternatives to consume during the crisis have been two key factors for the success of this new business model. Nevertheless, most of these business models have evolved, perverting their original objective. This new disruptive way of consuming includes BlaBlaCar and Airbnb, who are new competitors for traditional companies in the transportation and the hotel sectors respectively. This paper will analyse the concept of sharing economy, its typology and its main characteristics. Moreover, it will study in more depth the business case of Airbnb and its impact over the Spanish tourism and hotel industry.
