Las secuelas del abuso sexual en menores: victimas o supervivientes
Resumen
El abuso sexual infantil (ASI) constituye un importante problema de salud pública, extendido a nivel mundial, que afecta a las distintas sociedades y culturas. El estudio de esta problemática es de gran relevancia por diversos motivos. Por un lado, resulta paradójico cómo, a pesar de su enorme prevalencia, parece existir gran desconocimiento sobre el tema. De hecho, a pesar de los grandes avances que se han logrado en este campo, parece que se siguen manteniendo ciertas actitudes y creencias que hacen de esta problemática, una cuestión bastante oculta. Por otro lado, ser víctima de abusos sexuales durante la infancia, constituye un importante factor de riesgo para el desarrollo de devastadoras consecuencias, físicas, psicológicas y sociales, que podrían perjudicar la salud de las personas para el resto de sus vidas. Pero, además, su impacto no se limita únicamente a aquellos individuos que han sufrido los abusos, sino que se extiende a las familias, amigos, y en general, a las sociedades en las que tienen lugar dichos sucesos.
A pesar de todo, existen evidencias y testimonios de personas, que, tras haber sido abusados sexualmente en su infancia, han alcanzado un buen funcionamiento y adaptación en los distintos ámbitos de sus vidas. El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en investigar qué variables y procesos parecen contribuir al desarrollo de un buen ajuste psicológico, permitiendo a las víctimas de ASI reconducir sus vidas y convertirse en adultos resilientes. Un mejor entendimiento del proceso de recuperación de los sujetos, permitiría promover intervenciones más adaptadas a esta problemática, para mejorar la mejorar la calidad de vida de todos aquellos que han sufrido un acontecimiento tan traumático. Sexual Abuse in Childhood (CSA) is one of the most important public health problems. Its incidence extends worldwide and affects different societies and cultures. The study of this problem is of great relevance for various reasons. On the one hand, it is paradoxical how, despite its enormous prevalence, it seems to be a lack of knowledge on this subject. In fact, although there has been great advances in this field, there are some beliefs and attitudes that contribute to make this problem a hidden issue. On the other hand, being a victim of sexual abuses during childhood, is a risk factor for the development of devastating physical, psychological and social consequences, that may hinder the health of the people for the rest of their lives. In addition, its impact extends, not only to those who suffer the abuses, but also their family, friends, and, in general, the societies in which these evets take place.
Nonetheless, there are evidences and testimonies of people who, after having been abused in childhood, have achieved a well-functioning and adaptation in different areas of their lives. The objective of this work, is to investigate those variables and processes that may contribute to the development of a good psychological adjustment allowing the victims of CSA to redirect their lives and to become resilient adults. A better understanding of their recovery process, would help to promote more specific interventions to this problem and to improve the quality of life of those who have suffered such traumatic event.
