La Escuela de Salamanca: la razón como salvaguarda del Sistema Liberal

Abstract

En este trabajo se presentará el pensamiento económico racionalista de la Escuela de Salamanca para proponerlo como salvaguarda del sistema económico y político liberal. A través del estudio de la obra de esta Escuela y su coherencia con la de otros autores, se afirmará que existe una razón, universal y con contenido moral, que está presente en cada hombre y le permite ser plenamente libre y, a su vez, decidir en base a su propio interés con respeto a los derechos de los otros. Esta idea se plasmará en el ámbito económico para después, de manera lineal, aplicar el mismo esquema al ámbito político. El objetivo que se pretende es afirmar que la teoría de los siglos XVI y XVII de que la razón es un garante y legitima el sistema liberal en todas sus facetas es de plena actualidad y puede aplicarse a la realidad de nuestros días.

In the present paper the rationalist economic thought of the School of Salamanca will be introduced as a safeguard for the liberal economic and political system. Through the study of the work of the School and its coherence with those of a variety of philosophers, we will affirm that there is a reason -which is universal and has moral content- that is present in every man and that allows them to be fully free and, at the same, to act on their own self-interest while respecting other people’s rights. This idea will be applied to the economic sphere and afterwards, in a linear way, we will capture the same argument in the political context. The objective that is being looked for is to assert that this sixteenth-seventeenth century theory, based on the existence of a moral reason than serves to guarantee and legitimate the liberal system in all its dimensions, still remains current and can be applied to today’s reality.
