Abstract
mencionadas. Background: Mindfulness reduces anxiety, depressive symptoms and emotional reaction.
Allows a greater ability to regulate stress, unpleasant events and increases self-observation
and self-acceptance. Self-comparison, likewise, also reduces the levels of anxiety and
depression, and is also considered a positive coping strategy as it frees people from the
negative consequences of their self-criticism, providing autobonability instead, emotional
balance and a more objective vision of its virtues and defects, away from catastrophic
visions. Both skills can entrench, as through mindfulness, through programs such as MBSR
(Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and/or the MSC (Mindful Self Compassion)
program, which also reduce anxiety levels. The objectives of this study were: 1) to study
the differences between the scores before and after a group that participated in the MBSR
program and another group that participated in the MSC program, in each of the study
variables: anxiety, mindfulness and self-pity; 2) verify the differences between the MBSR
and MSC group regarding anxiety; 3) determine the possible differences between the
MBSR group and MSC in mindfulness and 4) determine the possible differences between
the MBRS group and MSC in self-pity. Method: a quasi-experimental study was carried
out. The sample consisted of 36 women who participated in 23 of them in a course of the
MBSR program, and the other 13 in a course of the MSC program. The following questionnaires were used: the STAI to evaluate the levels of anxiety, the MAAS to measure
levels of mindfulness and the SCS to verify the levels of self-pity. These three
questionnaires were passed before and after to both groups to check the degree of
improvement of the three study variables. Results: Regarding the first objective, a
statistically significant improvement was found in the three variables in both the MSBR
and the MSC group. Regarding the second objective, there is no difference in the degree of
anxiety reduction between one group and another. Regarding the third and fourth
objectives, no statistically significant differences were found in the variables mindfulness
and acotompassion, between the MBSR and MSC group, except in one of the six
dimensions for which the self-compassion scale is composed, as in autocomplacency. This
difference was in favor of the MSC group, which reached the highest level of improvement
with respect to the MSC group. However, this was not the case in the other five dimensions
for which it is composed the dimension. Discussion: the results indicate that both programs
are effective in improving anxiety, mindfulness and self-compassion, and that there aren´t
differences in the degree between the MBSR group and the MSC in the three mentioned
variables.
