Abstract
The aims of this study were to observe the manifestations of violence, the different adult attachment styles and the
irrational beliefs in a 89 women (18-75 years old) victims of marital violence sample, and to study if these three
variables were correlated. Using the Melero and Cantero’s Adult Attachment Questionnaire (2008), the Arce and
Fariña’s Irrational Beliefs and Distorted Thoughts about Violence’s Use, Gender Roles and Couple Relationship
Questionnaire (2005), and the Zúñiga, Vázquez and Lopez’s Domestic Violence Questionnaire (2006) it was found
that the most common adult attachment style was the preoccupied style, most of the women suffered more than one
violence manifestation and the number of irrational beliefs was not relevant. Regarding the relation between these
variables, the adult attachment style was related to a bigger number of irrational beliefs, but the fact of suffering
more violence manifestations was not related to a bigger number of irrational beliefs or a determinated adult attachment
style.
