Energy recovery system from a car booth
Abstract
The original objective of this project was to find new ways of recovering energy from
a installation widely used in car factories. The installation is a car booth to test both the engine
and the brake system of the car. The project was started thinking of the immediate application
of the conclusions obtained. The real installation could not be modified, so the project was
refocused, because it was no longer an energy recovery case. As the energy from the car is
used to accelerate the set of rollers on which the car is placed, unless they are changed, no
energy will be recovered. Therefore, the current project is more a theoretical study about the
different ways of recovering energy from the car booth than a practica! one. Nevertheless, a
specific process was chosen and described.
The work developed in this project was both practica! and theoretical. Three
experiments were carried out in order to find the efficiency of different processes. However,
the main work in this project was performed using references.
The conclusions of this project are that increasing slightly the amount of energy
developed by the car in the test (within reasonable limits, according to the factory engineers),
a certain volume of water can be pumped to a height of 30 m. In the further work section a
way in which energy can be in fact recovered from the process is suggested.
