penalización por hijo
Abstract
With the entrance of women into the labour market, the conflict family-labour emerges. Who is in charge of childcare? As a general rule, women are always the answer. We can define child penalty as the percentage by which women’s wage (with respect to men’s wage) fall in the labour market due to childbirth. This paper aims to show the influence that child penalty has on the Spanish labour inequality between men and women. To carry out such analysis, we discuss findings of different papers about child penalty in wo German speaking countries, two English speaking countries and two Nordic countries. After presenting the data we explore the results the authors of the afore-mentioned papers get to, comparing the conciliation measures of each of the three groups of countries studied to better understand their culture.
Next, we analyze the Spanish conciliation measures to compare them to the ones analyzed from the three group of countries. Once this is done, we identify which culture seems to be more similar to the Spanish.
Lastly, we compare the Spanish child penalty to the Spanish labour inequality between men and women to better show how they are related.
