El sufragio femenino en Estados Unidos. Análisis de la Decimonovena Enmienda

Abstract

Los inicios del Siglo XX fueron una época convulsa en Estados Unidos, gracias a una infinidad de cambios que comenzaron a producirse a nivel político, económico y social. La inmersión de Estados Unidos en la Primera Guerra Mundial, el creciente peso de las mujeres en la sociedad, y los inicios de la concepción hegemónica a nivel mundial que a día de hoy seguimos contemplando sobre ellos, son varios de los factores que llevaron a la aprobación del voto femenino. Ante casi medio siglo de organizaciones y convenciones en busca de una ampliación de derechos, se consiguió presionar al Gobierno para debatir parlamentariamente la inclusión en el nivel legislativo federal de la decimonovena enmienda a la Constitución Federal que permitiese el sufragio femenino en todo el territorio estadounidense, independientemente de la legislación particular de cada estado.

The first half of the 20th Century was a conflictive time for the United States, thanks to a huge amount of changes that started to take place on a political, economical, and social level. United States entering the First World War, the increase in power of women in society, and the kick-off of the conception we still have nowadays of the United States as a Superpower, were all factors that lead to the approval of the women’s right to vote. After almost half a century of organisations and conventions looking for an expansion of women’s rights, they managed to pressure the Government enough to debate in Congress the inclusion of the nineteenth amendment on the federal level of legislation, which would modify the Federal Constitution through the nineteenth amendment, allowing women suffrage all over the American territory, regardless of the particular legislation of each state.
