Abstract
The purpose of this research is to confirm the following hypothesis. Nowadays,
there exists a widespread idea about the stability of the luxury market, which has always
generated high margins to the firms inside this industry. Nevertheless, today, being
defined as a luxury brand is not enough, given that, even the forecast figures for the
future are really positive, several factors have arisen and are pushing the companies of this sector. The aim of this research is to confirm these factors, demonstrating how
some of the most representative brands have already been forced to face them through
different strategies.
In order to do that, there will be an analysis of the main challenges the
companies inside the luxury industry have to face. Since the beginning, the luxury
industry has been very attractive to businessmen, given the high and stable profits
generated by the companies and the big and continuously growing figures on their
bottom lines. Nevertheless, during the last decades, the main luxury firms have been
forced to leave the comfort bubble in which they were placed. It has been led by the
social, cultural and economic problems affecting the entire world. Consequently, in
order to maintain their status and margins stable, they have developed several strategies
that can be analysed from different perspectives. Additionally, the characteristics of the
environment in which these firms operate, make the luxury industry a very stimulating
subject of study, dealing with exquisite consumers, offering an optimal quality on their
products and defending a brand image which represents most of the companies’ value.
