Abstract
adulto. The aim of this study was to analyze the variation in couple satisfaction according early
attachment, self-esteem and adult attachment, checking also if there was significant association
between these variables. The sample of this study consisted of 191 participants (77% women
and 23% men) of Spanish nationality, aged between 20 and 77 years with an average age of
38.05 years. The measurement instruments used in this investigation were Relationship
Assesment Scale (R.A.S), the Parental Bonding Instrument (P.B.l), Rosenberg Self-Esteem
Scale (R.S.E.S) and Adult Attachment Questionnarie. The results of the study show that:
people with secure, dismissive or preoccupied attachment had higher couple satisfaction than
those with fearful attachment; there are significant differences in couple satisfaction between
infant attachments "affectionate constraint" (high care and high protection) and "affectionless
control" (low care and high protection); and people with secure attachment who have the
highest rates of self-esteem. Finally, it was not confirmed that there was a correlation between
self-esteem and couple satisfaction, however, significant relations were found between
dimensions of early attachment and dimensions of adult attachment.
