La racionalidad de Asimov en su faceta de novelista le llevo a elaborar obras atípicas, sensiblemente diferentes a la ciencia ficción de la época, y mas parecidas a las novelas de misterio que a las space opera que dominaban en el genero. La trilogía de la Fundación, su obra mas emblemática, es probablemente el mejor ejemplo de su particular estilo, además de incorporar numerosos elementos de critica. Una lectura palimpséstica de las tres novelas nos permite observar la manera en que Asimov confronta la racionalidad a la violencia, el fanatismo y las emociones, enfrentamientos que sistemáticamente se decantan en favor de la actuación basada en la fría logica. Este trabajo profundiza en dichas confrontaciones, en ocasiones de naturaleza metatextual, que permiten acercarnos al pensamiento del autor y comprender mejor una obra que, desde una perspectiva transtextual, resulta notablemente compleja. -
