Abstract
Pathological gambling was classified as impulse control disorder. Currently, it is part of addictive disorders and there is evidence that models of addictions can be extended to this behavioural addiction. Cognition, reinforcement, the reward system and impulsivity are elements that may explain, in part, the vulnerability of people to the transformation of gambling behaviour into an addiction.
Advertising and the use of cyberspace have contributed to the processes of consumption and relapse through recruitment strategies at a time when the measures to prevent these businesses were inadequate and when the culture accepted everything related to gambling. This problem has been gaining strength in our country, in person and online.
Governments have promoted measures and laws to try to prevent and treat this disorder, especially with regard to vulnerable communities, such as minors or people in treatment while at the same time, they are engaged in a debate between the profits and rights of companies and the health of their citizens.
