Abstract
Self-Differentiation is a necessary process in individual lives. This process is oriented to separate from family without breaking affective ties. The objective is to favorite one´s own autonomy. It consists in two different components (inter and intrapersonal that seek balance to achieve maturity and development. Self-Differentiation is a process that begins in childhood, consolidates in adolescence, and reach in adulthood. Although Self-Differentiation tends to stay stable over time, it can be modified and increased by psychotherapy and quality affective relationships whit family, friends, and partners. High levels of Self-Differentiation are related to major emotional regulation, self-esteem, social skills, and higher identity development. However, low Self-Differentiation is associated with higher levels of anxiety and physical and psychological symptoms. Thea aims of this paper is to illustrate, through a study case, an intervention on the Self-Differentiation process and the anxiety associated in a 20-year-old patient who is immersed in the search of her identity while is facing family conflicts from the Family System Therapy.
