The focus of the study is on analyzing the political ramifications of this historical evolution and, in particular, on unravelling the struggles of Native Hawaiians for self-determination and recognition of their rights.

To achieve this goal, it explores how the arrival of the United States in Hawai ́i in the 19th century and its subsequent annexation have affected the culture, sovereignty, and identity of Native Hawaiians. It delves into government policies, legislative initiatives and resistance movements that have arisen in response to the Americanization of Hawai ́i.

In addition, the study covers aspects of the global colonial debate and indigenous sovereignty, providing a deeper understanding of Hawai ́i ́s position in this broader context.
