Abstract

La percepción del poder como algo perteneciente a la naturaleza siempre ha sido dificultada por la hybris, el exceso tan frecuente en su ejercicio. Este fenómeno experimentó un cambio de significado con la modernidad. El totalitarismo es, por la misma razón, diferente de la dictadura y el autoritarismo y consiste en una metafísica social destructiva de la relación política, incluso entre las llamadas democracias. La cabeza de las Górgonas, adornada con serpientes en lugar de cabellos, y que convertía en piedra a quien mirara sus ojos, simboliza la realidad del poder moderno, ilimitado e invasivo. La cabeza de la Gorgona, desde la "hybris" del poder hasta el totalitarismo moderno, originalmente publicada por Ediciones Nueva Hispanidad en Buenos Aires en 2001, se presenta por primera vez a los lectores de habla portuguesa por Livraria Resistência Cultural Editora, con un prefacio de Rafael Vitola Brodbeck y un epílogo de Cesar Ranquetat Jr., es una obra de importancia capital para comprender la modernidad.

The perception of power as something belonging to the order of nature has always been hindered by hybris, the excess so often seen in its exercise. This phenomenon underwent a transformation in meaning with the advent of modernity. Totalitarianism is, for the same reason, distinct from dictatorship and authoritarianism, and it consists of a destructive social metaphysics of the political relationship, even among so-called democracies. The heads of the Gorgons, adorned with snakes instead of hair, which turned anyone who gazed into their eyes to stone, symbolize the reality of modern power, boundless and invasive. The head of the Gorgon – from the "hybris" of power to modern totalitarianism – originally published by Ediciones Nueva Hispanidad in Buenos Aires in 2001, is, for the first time, presented to Portuguese-speaking readers by Livraria Resistência Cultural Editora, with a preface by Rafael Vitola Brodbeck and an afterword by Cesar Ranquetat Jr. This work is of paramount importance for understanding modernity.
