. Isabella I's funeral arrangements show that she sought in Observant Franciscanism the spiritual basis for expressing her political novelty. Representation and performativity, outstanding elements in spirituality, allow us to understand the symbolic and political dimension of the queen's last will and testament. It was about representing female sovereignty but also offered a new paradigm of Catholic sovereignty, irrespective of the ruler’s gender. To better assess the originality of the queen’s will, this study also considers the perspective of Ferdinand the Catholic, and the difficulties that arose when executing Isabella's orders.
