La mentira terapéutica en gerontología: una revisión narrativa sobre uso, límites y estado de la cuestión

Abstract

La mentira terapéutica es una herramienta de intervención que consiste en dar una respuesta diferente a la realidad a una persona que sufre deterioro cognitivo. Este recurso se utiliza buscando el mayor beneficio para la persona y su uso conlleva importantes implicaciones éticas para los profesionales sociosanitarios, quienes se enfrentan a un complejo dilema cuando tienen que decidir entre la verdad o la mentira. El objetivo del presente trabajo es analizar los diferentes posicionamientos acerca del uso de la mentira terapéutica mediante una revisión narrativa de la literatura científica sobre esta herramienta. Se identificaron 1783 artículos mediante las bases de datos PUBMED, LILACS, IBECS, EBSCO, Web of Science, SciELO y Cochrane Library. Tras la revisión del título, resumen, texto completo y la aplicación de los criterios de inclusión, se seleccionaron 26 textos para esta revisión. Ninguno de los artículos analizados mantiene una postura definida, a favor o en contra, respecto al uso de la mentira terapéutica, y la mayor parte de ellos plantea su utilización en mayor o menor medida. Los diferentes argumentos a favor y en contra de este recurso permiten desarrollar una definición completa del recurso de intervención, teniendo en cuenta los pros y los contras de su uso.

Therapeutic lying is an intervention tool that consists of giving a different response to reality to a person sufferingfrom cognitive impairment. This resource is used to seek the greatest benefit for the person, and its use carriesimportant ethical implications for socio-health professionals, who face a complex dilemma when they have todecide between the use of the truth or lies. The objective of this paper is to analyze the different perspectives onthe use of therapeutic lying through a narrative review of the scientific literature on this tool.1783 articles were identified using the PUBMED, LILACS, IBECS, EBSCO, Web of Science, SciELO and Co-chrane Library databases. After reviewing the title, abstract, full text, and application of the inclusion criteria,26 were included in the review.None of the articles analyzed maintains a defined position, for or against, regarding the use of therapeutic lying,most of them proposing its use to a greater or lesser extent.
