How are Spanish energy companies presenting their position on energy transition in their company statements, and how could this impact the energy sector?
Resumen
This thesis investigates the position and discourse of Spanish energy companies in the context of the global energy transition towards sustainability. Using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), sustainability reports are examined to discern how these corporations conceptualise and communicate their role in this systemic change. The study reveals that while companies present themselves as proactive and committed agents of sustainability, they also actively shape the discourse to align their business practices with broader economic and political interests. The research offers a critical understanding of the interplay between corporate communication, sustainability practices and energy policies through a comprehensive literature review, a detailed methodological framework and analysis. The thesis concludes with a reflection on the implications of these discursive strategies for the future of energy policy and climate action, suggesting the need for continued stakeholder dialogue to facilitatee a genuinely equitable and effective energy transition.
