. Lemaitre et al. (2018) evaluate the BiodivERsA initiative, a European project promoting science-based biodiversity policymaking. Analyzing 21 projects, the study explores how researchers can enhance the societal relevance of their work by effectively engaging with policymakers. It highlights best practices in co-producing knowledge, translating findings into accessible language, and fostering long-term relationships with knowledge users. The paper proposes a framework to assess the effectiveness of science-policy interactions and emphasizes the need to develop institutional capacities and communication skills. The authors conclude that early and sustained engagement with policymakers is essential for increasing research impact on decision-making. Their findings suggest that science-policy interfaces must be actively managed to bridge the gap between knowledge production and policy needs, ensuring biodiversity science contributes meaningfully to sustainable development goals.
