Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between childhood trauma and the functioning of adult romantic relationships, focusing on the role of adult attachment and the potential moderating effect of therapeutic intervention. Based on attachment theory and the literature on early trauma, it is proposed that adverse childhood experiences may leave a significant impact on the way individuals form emotional bonds and build intimate relationships later in life. To this end, a quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational study was conducted with a sample of 40 adults involved in stable romantic relationships. Variables related to childhood trauma, adult attachment, dyadic adjustment, and therapeutic experience were assessed using validated psychometric instruments.

Although the study did not confirm some of the hypotheses due to methodological limitations and the small sample size, the findings highlight the relevance of adult attachment as a key variable in understanding relational functioning. Likewise, the study emphasizes the need for further research on these variables in larger and clinical samples, as well as the importance of continuing to explore the value of attachment-focused and emotion regulation interventions within the therapeutic context.
