Abstract

The text reflects on pastoral care for healthcare workers, understood not only as spiritual support but as an integral approach that acknowledges their vocation, fragility, and transcendent dimension. It argues that healthcare practice can be a path to God, since caring for human suffering touches the divine mystery. Pastoral work should go beyond sacramental celebration, incorporating proclamation, hope, and community, helping professionals integrate faith and science without dichotomies. Six key dimensions are identified: vocational (discovering the deep meaning of the profession), sapiential (giving significance to time and experience), creatural (accepting limits and vulnerability), missionary (living help as an expression of love), relational (managing relationships and tensions), and trinitarian (orienting life toward God in communion). The text emphasizes the need for spaces of silence, dialogue, and spiritual formation to face emotional exhaustion, loneliness, and existential crises accompanying healthcare practice. Ultimately, it proposes a pastoral approach that humanizes the profession, sustains hope, and opens horizons of meaning amid pain and uncertainty.
