Los Circunceliones : ¿Movimiento social o disenso religioso?

Abstract

Este artículo es un estudio del fenómeno social con importantes implicaciones religiosas conocido como movimiento de los circunceliones, turbulencias acaecidas en la África del siglo IV y comienzos del siglo V d.C. El cisma donatista es el telón de fondo del movimiento circuncelión. Por ello, también tratamos de analizarlas relaciones de este movimiento social con el conflicto latente o declarado que enfrentó a los representantes de la ortodoxia católica con los de este cisma que se remontaba a la época de la gran persecución.This article is a study of the social phenomenon with important religious implications known as the Circumcellion movement, turbulence that occurred in Africa in the fourth and early fifth centuries AD. The Donatist schism is the backdrop of the Circumcellion movement. Therefore, we also try to analyze the relationship of this social movement with the latent or declared conflict that confronted the representatives of Catholic orthodoxy with those of this schism dating back to the time of the great persecution.
