Abstract

Grief and trauma are complex phenomena by nature, and if we add to that the presence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the result is an even more challenging and complicated experience. The human being is a social being by nature, therefore, what happens to him in his environment, both close and extensive, affects the meanings that he gives, directly or indirectly, to his own experiences. The objective of this work was to study the effect that the COVID-19 pandemic could have on future generations, based on a bibliographic review that took as a theoretical line the investigation of the phenomenon of transgenerational transmission. As a result, we find that those people who in the past have lived a traumatic experience, which they have not been able to elaborate, usually transmit this discomfort and meaning unconsciously to the following generations, causing them to live it as a personal experience. Likewise, evidence was found that supports not only the importance of resilience but also that it is an innate characteristic of the human being. These results open the way for future research on grief and family relational factors that may be mediating the experience.
