This paper describes the development of the system SIRO, an optimal regulation tool for metro lines. SIRO combines simulation, optimisation and hierarchical control techniques. The objectives of the system are (1) to improve the quality of the service, (2) save energy and (3) to provide a powerful monitoring and operation environment. The paper summarizes the requirements, design and implementation phases of the project, emphasizing relevant aspects such as the optimisation techniques and the real-time aspects of the design.es-ES
