Abstract

Oil companies are the largest emitters of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, so climate change and the oil industry are closely linked. This weight that the oil industry has on climate change, associated with its great economic and social power, gives it a privileged position that allows companies in the sector to influence the very definition of the problem and its solutions. For this reason, this research aims to analyze the discourses of the three current oil companies, Saudi Aramco, Exxon Mobile and Chevron, with the objective of knowing the business perspective of the problem and the solutions. From this critical analysis, the perspective that the industry has about the problem is sought, and to reveal to what extent they may be favouring some solutions or hindering others.
