Esclavitudes derivadas de las dependencias
Abstract
The chapter analyzes dependencies as new forms of contemporary slavery, as they limit freedom, personal autonomy, and the free development of the individual. María Isabel Álvarez Vélez approaches addictions from the perspective of human dignity and the right to health, distinguishing between substance-related dependencies and behavioral dependencies, such as gambling, technology use, social media, and video games. The text particularly emphasizes the need for public authorities to intervene in order to prevent, regulate, and protect the most vulnerable people, especially minors. It concludes that any dependency that subjects a person to domination represents a threat to their dignity and requires appropriate legal, educational, and social responses.
