Abstract

Throughout the last decades, Spain has been plagued by different waves of terrorism. First, terrorism used to be national and was represented by groups such as ETA, GAL & GRAPO. More recently, terrorism in Spain has become international and has centered on the jihadist ideology, such as conveyed by organizations like Al Qaeda and the Islamic State. This new Islamic terrorism is global and spreads through new mass media like the internet and social networks. The present work seeks to analyze the new regulation “Ley Orgánica 2/2015, de 30 de marzo” that aims to address the new challenges brought forward by this new form of terrorism. The legal reform under consideration characterizes itself for being stricter in the face of the increased threats. In addition, in this analysis emphasis will be put on the crime of the glorification of terrorism, which seeks to exalt or justify a crime of terrorism, praise its author or despise or humiliate the victims or its relatives.
