Tiempo cronológico y tiempo de salvación

Abstract

Taking as a starting point the mythological image of Saturn and a phrase from the Rule of Saint Benedict, the article reflects on the relationship between time experienced as chronology (chronos) and lived as an experience of salvation (kairos). Man and reality are essentially temporal (Augustine of Hippo and Martin Heidegger). Are we, then, destined for finitude and death, or is time a presence and an opening to the eternity of God? Time and eternity are not two opposed realities as we are accustomed to think. In Christianity, eternity becomes time, and time reaches its fullness in eternity. If the essence of God's being is eternal, the essence of human being is temporality. However, as distinct forms of being, they do not oppose each other, and even less do they exclude each other.
