Abstract

Financial investors are daily subjected to decision-making. This study shows how heuristics or mental shortcuts interfere in this decision-making process, biasing the process and diverting the investor from rationality. The base of this analysis is Behavioral Finance, the science that studies investor's irrationality and how they behave when making a decision. Within this analysis of the different heuristics and biases, the causes, consequences in the daily life and in the portfolio of the investor are studied, as well as the possible strategies to mitigate their negative effects. The objective of this study is to reach a global understanding of the non-rational behavior of people, and investors in particular, when making a decision.
