Abstract

This article develops the ethical task of the UNIJES Ethics Group (Jesuit Universities of Spain) in its twenty-five years of history. A journey, from the innovative and contested decision to implement Professional Ethics in all the Degrees and Masters of its Universities to the understanding of ethical work as a transversal challenge that should inspire its own educational style. A way of educating that not only aims to train the best professionals in the world, but the best professionals for the world. After the pandemic experienced in recent months, we are even more clear that contemporary ethics cannot be restricted exclusively to the cultivation of virtue in the private space of each one, But must unfailingly be open to the common good, to the transformation of our institutions, societies and natural environments in fairer and more sustainable spaces. The moral educational task requires, therefore, transcending the teaching limits of a subject, however ethical it may be, to inspire the transformative humanist commitment of all teachers, whatever the specific content of the subjects they teach. A real challenge for the social impact of our Universities, which is urged by the complexity of our problems and which demands the recovery of a citizen ethic of common reason, common sense, common feeling.
