Dispatching Material Handling Vehicles

Abstract

Los vehículos de transporte interno son, a día de hoy, muy ampliamente usados en el mundo industrial. Su principal objetivo es el del transporte de materiales de un punto a otro de, por ejemplo, una fábrica. Un ejemplo de este tipo de vehículos es la carretilla elevadora. Existen dos tipos de vehículos dedicados a este fin: los guiados por autómatas (AGVs) y los guiados manualmente (GVs). La optimización de estos medios de transporte es crucial a la hora de obtener el máximo rendimiento y lograr la máxima productividad de la fábrica. Esta optimización también tiene como objetivo la reducción de costes (gasolina, kilometraje…) y de tiempos, los cuales pueden ser mejoradas en ocasiones hasta en un 30%. La distribución de las tareas a realizar en este tipo de vehículos son conocidas como reglas de reparto. En este proyecto voy a implementar, simular y evaluar diversas reglas de reparto. Para este propósito utilizaré el programa AutoMod. Cabe destacar que durante la realización de este proyecto no se tendrá en cuenta si estas reglas serán para AGVs o GVs, ya que a efectos de estas no influye el tipo de vehículo. Las reglas serán testadas en tres diferentes escenarios, dos de los cuales parten del inicial, una fábrica localizada en España. Los datos de está fabrica, tanto el diseño de la planta, como los tiempos de los operarios fueron dados por la compañía, mientras que las variaciones creadas en los otros dos escenarios tienen el objetivo de probar el funcionamiento de las reglas de reparto para posteriormente analizar qué factores influyen en estas.Material Handling Vehicles are widely used in the industry nowadays. Their main objective is the transportation of material from one point to another, for example, in an industrial plant. Fork lifts are good examples of these type of vehicles. Two types of vehicles can be distinguished: Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and manually Guided Vehicles (GVs). The optimization of these transporting modes is crucial when trying to maximize the overall efficiency of a plant and trying to reach the maximum possible productivity. Other goals, as reducing costs (fuel, mileage…) and reducing waiting times or times in system can also be reached. Its optimization can lead to improvements up to 30%. The dispatching of Material Handling Vehicles is approached by dispatching rules. In this Project I am going to implement, simulate and evaluate several dispatching rules. For this, I am going to use the software AutoMod. In this Project I am not going to distinguish between AGV or GVs, as it does not affect when applying and evaluating rules. These dispatching rules will be tested in three different scenarios, two of which are derivations of the first one, which is a real-world factory located in Spain. Both factory layout and times for each operation were provided by the company. The variations created in the two derivate scenarios aim to probe the dispatching rules functioning and analyze which factors influence them.
