PROJECT SUMMARY The importance of having a digital infrastructure that responds to customer demand and to a corporation's own employees' needs is a topic increasingly present in a company's strategic debate. The digital transformation will change, if it is not already doing so, the way operations are managed and the large volume of data that entities face. The greater or faster this growth, the greater the opportunity for companies to use this information usefully, accelerate business cycles, know their customers better, identify weaknesses or optimize existing operations. In 2013 about 22% of the available information was prepared for analysis and use, however less than 5% was actually used. It is expected that by the year 2020 this percentage of useful information will increase to 37%. This data and taking into account the increase in the amount of information that will be available, technological opportunities for financial institutions become a fundamental role in the development of their strategies. In 2017, 79.2% of the data will appear in an unstructured format. It is in this aspect that artificial intelligence solutions acquire their value, requiring systems that are capable of ordering, understanding and processing the large volume of structured data available today. Artificial intelligence can be found today in different forms, all of them with different applications, from neural networks, cognitive engines or natural languages to robotics or intelligent agents. All of them will be explained in detail during the development of the project, analysing their current situation and application areas. By integrating the concepts of artificial intelligence and process automation, a large number of reference companies can be found that have already opted for the implementation of these technologies for the optimization and improvement of their operations. The need to integrate this type of solutions in the operations of an entity arises as a response, not only to the great advances that technology is experiencing, but also to the human limitations that can be found when evaluating large volumes of data or making decisions based on them. These solutions propose an alternative that has a greater reliability, not exposing the analysis to the criterion or possible human error and at the same time optimizing significantly the resources (time, infrastructure, employees or budget) dedicated to these tasks. Not all sectors have embraced these new technologies in the same way, the most prominent being the health, transport and financial sectors. The customer service area is one of the companies that is best adopting this type of solution The following figure shows the different lines proposed and developed by the technology, depending on their level of maturity or the type of data used.

Figure 1: Maturity of the different technologies

It is also interesting to differentiate the different technologies based on the level of automation they can provide or the level of dependence they have on human beings to function on a daily basis. Tools such as Chatbots or Internet of Things need more interaction with the client or with the worker as a source of information or a trigger for the different processes. Others, such as cognitive engines or robotics do not always need human interaction during their operation. This project aims to provide a vision of how these new trends are working and, more specifically, to provide a clear vision of what the world of artificial intelligence is like from the point of view of cognitive engines and their role in the financial fabric of companies. It is not only important to have a close knowledge of the technologies and how they can bring about great improvements in companies, due to their great complexity when interacting with the rest of the applications and data available to the entities, it is also important to be able to know the most appropriate way to integrate them into the operations. Therefore, this document will propose a methodology to work on when facing an implementation project through the use of cognitive engines as an element of optimization and improvement of the processes being studied. Starting from RPA (Robotic Process Automation) technology to the most advanced artificial intelligence, a fundamental path to understand the current digital situation faced by companies. The most relevant technological areas currently present and with the greatest impact, whether current or expected in the near future, are analysed below.

1. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Robotic Process Automation (RPA onwards) is not robotics as generally understood, i.e. physically a robot that performs certain types of tasks and movements. The concept of RPA refers to software that can be easily programmed, without the need for high knowledge in programming of any kind, to perform different activities through the tools available to a worker. The processes chosen to be automated by means of RPA technology must be repetitive processes that do not add great value to the daily work and that allow the worker to spend the time dedicated to these activities on others that really require time and are more complex. It is mainly designed to work with office applications or web and java applications, and it is always possible to adapt to new tools. It is important to know that RPA technology does not replace the available applications, but rather optimizes the different processes that interact with these applications, being able to work with all of them. It is a technology designed for the automation of purely computer-based processes that are supported in one or several systems without any need to make changes to the systems for their implementation.

2. Chatbots A chatbot is an intelligent robot, designed to perform activities such as making a hotel reservation or responding to a customer request call. These are more complex activities that require the use of artificial intelligence and more complex training than RPA technology. The most common and illustrative use case is the simulation of a conversation held with a person, either through text or spoken dialogue. It is, therefore, a technology that is very present in customer service and messaging functions, incorporating a conversational interface. Similar to RPA technology, Chatbots are capable of performing repetitive tasks, conversations based on patterns and with clear references established. This technology has an additional freedom, taking as a source of information a large database in which to rely on statistical methods and artificial intelligence can come to simulate more open conversations and come to make simple decisions at certain times. These databases are made up of historical data on similar operations, data on the customer or operator with whom the conversation is being held and possible paths by which the conversation can be derived. 3. Internet of Things Internet of Things is a term that refers to the connection between different everyday elements with the Internet. It is a concept that speaks of the advanced relationship, through the Internet, of devices that provide information about the activities they perform, location or data they manage and, at the same time, they are enriched with information provided by other elements of the network. It is a promising concept in the field of artificial intelligence. Markets need data and the connectivity between the elements speeds up both communications and the optimisation of processes, as well as the availability of information. On the one hand, artificial intelligence will allow the maximum potential of the Internet of things to be developed, and on the other hand, it will be enriched with this information for its own improvement and training by having a large additional volume of information. Currently the IoT is much more present in society than many users may think. The new intelligent refrigerators, which can alert the consumer directly on their phone that they are running out of some product or how much fruit is in the fridge at any given time. Another example could be the information that can be received on a mobile phone while driving, about the traffic on the route to be taken or the areas where parking spaces are available. All these examples, more and more common in everyday life, are due to the evolution of IoT, so it can be understood as a concept of Internet of Things, all that network that is currently being created in which inanimate elements (appliances, mobile phones, buildings, etc.) interact with each other exchanging information obtained through sensors present in all of them.

4. Blockchain The Blockchain technology is a new way of sharing and registering data that appears in 2009 with the Bitcoin virtual currency, based on the existence of a global, accessible and reliable database, in which all the transactions, profiles and operations performed are registered, in short, it is the "book of digital events". The methodology can be expressed with the following example; when requesting a transaction on the Internet, see a money transfer to a colleague, it is the banks on both sides that are responsible for making the exchange, without the need to use physical money, simply by making a balance between the accounts of the recipient and the sender of the transfer. In this situation, it is the bank that has the information and the power of the transaction and, furthermore, the one that verifies the operation, not the persons between whom the payment is being made, are subject to the conditions and commissions of the two banks. With the Blockchain technology, it is possible to eliminate the intermediaries in the transactions, not necessarily the banking transactions but all types of information exchange. With this new technology the control of the processes is of the users. With Blockchain, when requesting a transaction through the Internet, the first block appears in the chain of blocks, which represents the transaction. This block is distributed to each part of the chain and it is the network itself that approves the transaction and validates it. Once validated, the block is added to the chain, which provides permanence, security and non-repetitiveness. The next time you want to perform the same operation, the data will not need to be shared again, it will be taken from the chain in a reliable and secure way.

5. Cognitive engines Cognitive engines are the concept closest to the idea of Artificial Intelligence. They are tools based on the processing of large volumes of information, with the aim of providing conclusions, interpreting patterns and proposing decisions. It could be said that they were created with the aim of behaving like a human when faced with the resolution of a given problem. Cognitive engines analyze the available information, not only the information obtained through IoT, but all the information coming from any source or application, and through analytical, statistical and predictive methods they are able to obtain conclusions and even predictions on specific occasions. The main objective of the cognitive engines is to simulate the way of thinking of natural persons, through a complex computer system based, fundamentally, on statistical elements, through which and with the support of self-learning and pattern recognition systems, it is possible to resemble the way in which the human mind is capable of managing information and drawing conclusions. Cognitive engines process information by comparing it with a certain volume of data to which they have access. The greater the volume of data to which they have access, the more robust and reliable their behaviour will be and the better the learning and, consequently, the evolution experienced. They therefore represent a complex decision tree that allows the system to reach a conclusion and provide a response to certain scenarios. The implementation of cognitive engines is currently scarce in comparison with other variants of artificial intelligence, mainly due to their complexity, both in terms of understanding and configuration. However, more and more companies are opting for these facilities as a way of boosting the digital growth of companies and obtaining representative benefits. Help in decision making, as contrast tools before certain conclusions that can be reached or even as a predictive model of events that are considered important, such as fraud, are other prominent applications. Cognitive engines can serve as great predictive engines, thanks to the possibility of predicting and simulating future situations, creating future scenarios and allowing users to anticipate new trends and events. Due to the great complexity that cognitive engines present compared to other branches of artificial intelligence, such as robotics, it is convenient to establish a clear methodology when implementing a cognitive tool or even working with it in a company. In order to correctly implement the cycle that runs through the information and the properties of the cognitive engines, a methodology has been developed that also allows a deeper understanding of some fundamental aspects. This methodology describes in detail the following phases: 1. Risk identification 2. Company formation 3. Information gathering and integration with existing systems 4. Understanding the tool 5. Monitoring and scalability As a conclusion, Artificial Intelligence is progressing rapidly and providing different alternatives focused on satisfying different needs within companies and contributing to a better achievement of their objectives. The importance that this digital revolution is having in the strategies of the entities, in practically all the sectors is enormous. Once this new market is understood, it is possible to see how organizations change their operations and implement methodologies that, until now, were considered futuristic and distant. Thanks to the rapid progress of the different solutions, it is very complicated to have a long-term horizon, meaning no more than five or six years, in which to be able to clearly see what the future trends derived from Artificial Intelligence will be like. Providing a detailed vision of the new trends provided by Artificial Intelligence, especially the one considered the most complex of them all, the cognitive engines, responds to the great confusion in this field from corporate environments. From robotics, considered the "least intelligent" intelligent solution, to cognitive engines that aim to simulate human reasoning, all possible branches present different applications, and not only that, but they are perfectly compatible with each other, completing some of the shortcomings of the others. With the maturity of these technologies will also come the maturity with which they are managed by companies, from the point of view of security (an essential and very controversial aspect at present) or the management of the workforce with which they coexist and with which they develop. The productivity of companies is growing considerably thanks to these technologies. Therefore, and in order to remain competent in the market, entities must introduce Artificial Intelligence, if they have not already done so, as a fundamental pillar in the development of their strategies.
