Abstract

Currently, the energy consumption of the cooling and heating systems in electric cars can account for up to 40% of the capacity of the batteries. These systems are responsible for maintaining the temperature of the batteries and high-power electronic systems in the optimal range for their use, as well as for acclimating the passenger cabin to ensure the maximum level of thermal comfort. This project will try to optimize this energy consumption to increase the range of the vehicle. It is about designing an HVAC system that improves the existing ones, requires less energy, and has higher performance. For this purpose, a study of the systems that are currently used I carried out, analyzing the components of the circuits of the main manufacturers. It is also understood that the design of a new HVAC would not be enough, so it is proposed to develop a program that chooses when to use the different options (heat pumps, radiant surfaces, etc.) in order to optimize the use of energy taking advantage of the climatological data of some points of the route that is going to follow. Following the idea of creating a robust and flexible system, we will try to develop a code that is as general as possible so that it can be implemented in any system and accept any update that is made, such as improvements in the performance of compressors or radiators.
